COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A letter says that local rules keep Hawaii surf spots safe and orderly—local surfers help manage the waves and prevent overcrowding by tourists and other surfers. The letter warns that without local oversight, the balance at our surf spots can be lost.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Families celebrated Halloween on the HART Skyline on Sunday, October 26th as five stations offered treats, dancing, live music, and free HOLO Cards—organizers said the event provided a safe trick-or-treating ride for Honolulu residents.  KITV
  • Thousands attended a farewell concert in the lower Halawa parking lot Saturday at 10 p.m., marking the final celebration at Aloha Stadium—an icon for nearly five decades that hosted sports and concerts.   • State officials reported the first 381 unemployment insurance claims from idled or unpaid workers—an early sign that the federal shutdown is straining Hawaii families.   • Hawaii’s home-care providers will gain a new platform for collaboration and advocacy as the Home Care Association of America launches its first statewide chapter next week—an effort meant to unite local services and strengthen patient care.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

  • The Hawaii Food and Wine Festival is underway at the Royal Lahaina Resort and will travel to Oahu on Thursday to showcase tea culture through food. Guests will join a Matcha Chai Brunch with executive chef Colin Sato and five other chefs at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach resort and Spa on Sunday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—tickets are limited.  Hawaii News Now
