- ➤ Aloha United Way has increased its number of 211 Specialists to handle a surge in calls from residents seeking help during the federal government shutdown — with food assistance now the top request for the first time in five years. KITV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ UPS Flight 2976, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 headed to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, crashed on November 4th at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, killing at least three people and injuring 11—authorities issued a shelter-in-place for nearby areas. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City and County of Honolulu extended the deadline for the Transit Construction Mitigation Fund to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 so local business owners near active rail construction on Dillingham Boulevard with a 10% revenue drop can apply. The grant offers up to $10,000 per applicant on a first-come, first-served basis — the online portal opened on Oct. 20. Hawaii News Now
- ➤ OHA Trustee Keli‘i Akina announced a new Kūlana ʻĀina program that supports local farmers, food workers, and chefs with training and job opportunities on legacy lands—an effort designed to boost food security and honor cultural traditions in Hawaiʻi. - ➤ Today, the Hawaii Department of Health set new rules requiring hemp retailers to register by January 1 for a $50 fee covering a five-year period to ensure safe and fair market practices.
