- ➤ Local cottage baker Georgi DeCosta from Kāne‘ohe will bake 12 free birthday bundt cakes for keiki in SNAP households with November birthdays to help families affected by the government shutdown—she also arranged gas card donations for families picking up cakes at Windward Mall’s Plenty of Aloha farmers market and hopes other Hawai‘i businesses will follow her lead. - ➤ Married for 17 years, Cheryl Bartlett fought to bring home her husband Rogerio Barbosa after immigration authorities detained him Oct. 28 in the parking lot of their Oahu apartment — community supporters rallied outside the Honolulu Federal Building urging his release before he could be deported to Brazil. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Federal investigators located the intact black box recorders from the wreckage of a UPS cargo plane headed for Honolulu that crashed after clearing a fence at Louisville Airport on Tuesday evening—killing 12 people and injuring 11 on the ground while prompting a state of emergency and a temporary runway closure. - ➤ Twenty-four Lahaina dancers are set to represent Hawaii at Disneyland and are asking for local support to help make their opportunity a reality — community members are encouraged to assist with the needed resources. Hawaii News Now

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Hawaii State Department of Education has announced new rules—banning electric motorcycles, electric dirt bikes and similar vehicles—for safety reasons on HIDOE campuses. - ➤ A 55-foot Cook pine tree was installed at Honolulu Hale on Wednesday for the Honolulu City Lights tradition. The tree will be lit up on Nov. 29 — and Thomas Square Park will join this year’s festivities. KITV
- ➤ New HIDOE rules now restrict e-bike use on school campuses to boost student safety. High school students aged 15 and older may ride registered e-bikes, while elementary and middle schools ban them and all campuses forbid e-motorcycles (to enforce age limits). KITV
- ➤ Offices and many services in Honolulu will have modified hours on Veterans Day — November 11 — while key emergency services remain open. City buses will operate on a holiday schedule and several public services such as waste collection and park operations will continue as planned. KITV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Federal officials report that an ongoing multi-state listeria outbreak linked to pasta meals has sickened 27 people across 18 states—two in Hawaii, with one death; the FDA is investigating while the Hawaii Department of Health found no link to recalled pasta products.
