ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out at the L & L Drive Inn on South Kamehameha Highway this afternoon, prompting a rapid response from the Honolulu Fire Department when 11 units with 39 personnel—who arrived at 3 p.m.—had water on the flames by 3:09 p.m. and fully extinguished the fire by 3:29 p.m.—with no injuries or occupants found. - ➤ UH Manoa’s Kennedy Theatre will host “Dancing in the Diaspora” this Friday to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Center for Philippine Studies, featuring over 20 artists who will blend hip-hop, contemporary movement and traditional dances with kulintang music — uniting Filipino, Hawaiian and Polynesian influences. The production will run from Nov. 14 to 23, with pre-show chats held before Saturday performances on Nov. 15 and 22. Hawaii News Now

- ➤ The 36th episode of the Halema’uma’u eruption began at 11:15 a.m. Sunday and produced lava fountains from both the north and south vents, with the north vent reaching about 500 ft high. The eruption affected the Ka’u District, and the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency warned residents to avoid ash exposure — which can irritate eyes and lungs. KITV

- ➤ Late Saturday, the USDA directed states to undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November and to provide only partial aid to low-income Americans—Hawaii is among those that had started full funding. The guidance warns states that failure to comply may lead to financial penalties following a recent Supreme Court order. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
- ➤ The city cleared out Ulehawa Beach Park in Nanakuli and forced dozens to leave—77 tents and 67 people were displaced while twenty volunteers cleaned the site and connected residents with health insurance, housing, and pet care. Councilmember Tupola said the cleanup was part of 16 weeks of compassionate accountability that provided medical, legal, and housing support. KITV

- ➤ The Hawaii Skin Cancer Coalition is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a free community event at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center in Kakaako on November 15th, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—free skin cancer screenings will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for registered participants, with parking and light refreshments available. - ➤ Life Flight Network launched medevac services on Hawaii island by adding a helicopter in Kona and a fixed-wing aircraft in Hilo to bring ICU-level care to patients in flight — a $15.5 million donation from the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation helped fund the effort. Just 24 hours after a Thursday blessing ceremony, the Hilo plane transported its first patient to Oahu and a second by Friday, while Life Flight has hired 33 local residents and plans to grow its team. - ➤ Hawaii’s football team beat San Diego State 38-6 on Saturday in rainy conditions at Ching Complex, ending a five-game losing streak to the Aztecs and improving to a 7-3 overall record and 4-2 in the Mountain West. - ➤ Hawaii’s Rainbow Wahine beat Cal State Bakersfield 25 to 11, 20 to 25, 25 to 18, 25 to 14 tonight at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center—middle blockers Bri Gunderson and Miliana Sylvester each tallied 12 kills. The win improved UH’s Big West record to 7 to 7 and overall standing to 11 to 14 as the team prepares for its final road matches this week. Honolulu Star-Advertiser
