COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Customers lined up outside the original Kim Chee restaurant in Kaneohe to enjoy the final meal after 49 years of service. Former employees and longtime patrons gathered — sharing memories and asking that the cherished recipes be passed on.  KITV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Green announced a council made up mainly of Native Hawaiians to help decide the future of Army leases on state property on Oahu and Hawaii Island that end in 2029 — the panel includes state officials, nonprofit leaders and private business people who will advise on proposals that may involve federal condemnation and other steps to protect cultural lands.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald
  • Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi honored 18 EMS members with the city's Valor Award on Friday—recognizing their heroic response to a New Year's fireworks explosion on Keaka Drive in Aliamanu that claimed six lives and injured over 20.  Hawaii News Now
  • Crews from the Honolulu Board of Water Supply are repairing an 8 inch water main break reported around 10:30 a.m. last Saturday near the 600 block of Ekekela Place—35 homes lost water service and two water wagons are available for residents to fill containers.  Hawaii News Now
  • The state Department of Transportation is launching a Priority Multimodal Network Plan on Hawaii island to add bike lanes, bus stop upgrades, and electric vehicle charging stations. The plan commits $307 million over the next decade—projects include new bike paths in Hilo and bus stop improvements on highways 11, 19, and 130, with work on bus stops expected to begin in 2027.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • The state Department of Health announced a new rule that will require hemp retailers to register and pay $50 for a five-year period starting Jan. 1 under Act 269 to boost safety and transparency. The department will hold education sessions and allow a grace period before fines begin — helping businesses meet the new law.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

  • Centre Urban Real Estate is planning to convert two Waikiki sites into 72 affordable workforce housing units under city guidelines — demolition began at 1615 Ala Wai Blvd. in July.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range reopened yesterday after months-long construction upgraded its turf, irrigation system, new hitting mats, stall dividers & range balls to improve safety and play for all golfers. The facility now operates daily from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Kapahulu Avenue in Waikiki.  KITV
  • The Hawaii basketball team beat Utah Tech on Saturday to capture its second straight Rainbow Classic title. Guard Dre Bullock slammed a dunk over forward Ethan Potter during the second half—an exciting play that helped secure the victory.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Kailua booked a trip to Kona after a 35-7 win over Aiea at Alex Kane Stadium—Micah Sua scored four touchdowns on four touches and the defense forced four turnovers to secure the win in the first round of the State Championships.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
  • Young athletes and their families from Ehime prefecture in Japan gathered in Honolulu for the annual Goodwill Youth Baseball Exchange — they played baseball games and shared cultural traditions.  Hawaii News Now
  • Hawaii men's basketball team beat the Utah Tech Trailblazers at the 2025 Outrigger Rainbow Classic on Nov. 15 in Honolulu—strengthening their season record.  Honolulu Star-Advertiser
