- ➤ The Department of Accounting and General Services invites people to help paint a new mural on the walls of its basement parking garage at the Kalanimoku Building at 1151 Punchbowl Street using an abstract design by artist-in-residence Solomon Enos. The event is set for Saturday, Nov. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and asks participants to sign up to ensure enough supplies — the design uses a fishing net to show how mauka and makai are linked. KITV
- ➤ B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii will host its free West Side Roundup event next Saturday at AMVETS West Oahu, 5001 Iroquois Ave.—the western-themed event will feature craft vendors, food booths, face painting, mechanical bull riding, live music, and contests while founder Mahealani Sims-Tulba said her own childhood bullying inspires the push for respect and inclusion. - ➤ Keep It Kaimukī Saturday will be held on Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ali‘iolani Elementary School, featuring special deals at over 30 local businesses, an outdoor maker’s market with 60 vendors, free family and pet-friendly activities, live entertainment, a free trolley ride along Wai‘alae Avenue — visitors can park at Sacred Hearts Academy or St. Patrick’s Church for free. - ➤ Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is preparing for a busy December as the ongoing Kilauea eruption nears its one-year mark with major construction projects, holiday events, and increased visitor traffic. The park completed its Phase One Disaster Recovery Project in mid-October and will host ranger-guided programs as well as a public geology talk on Dec. 23—measures that aim to improve visitor safety and access. - ➤ Lifeguards posted warning signs at Nanakuli Beach Park on Saturday just after 1 p.m. after Honolulu Ocean Safety confirmed an aggressive shark — 6 to 10-foot long — was seen in the water; beachgoers were advised to check with a lifeguard for updated ocean conditions. KITV
