ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 25th, Honolulu fire crews responded to a brush fire on Prospect St.—officials closed the street between Huali and Pele—and firefighters had water on the blaze by 2:21 p.m. with no evacuations needed.  KITV

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday night at 8:10 p.m., a 53-year-old woman riding her moped was critically injured in a hit-and-run in Kalihi at the intersection of North King St. and Kohou St.—the driver fled the scene and police are investigating the incident.  KITV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forty-one percent of JABSOM’s 2025 graduates are staying in Hawaii for residency training, a 10 percent increase from last year that supports local efforts to fill a critical physician shortage. A new Family Medicine Residency Program on Kauai will begin in 2026 as part of a broader push to bring more doctors to rural communities & expand training opportunities.  Hawaii Tribune-Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon, the 23rd episode of the Kilauea eruption began at 4:15 p.m. with sustained lava fountains from the north vent that reached over 1,000 feet—fountains from the south vent later measured 230 feet.  Hawaii News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Coast Guard is patrolling Honolulu waters today to ensure safe boat celebrations for Memorial Day weekend+ they will continue monitoring the area to protect holiday participants.  KITV

  • La Tour Bakehouse on Nimitz Highway offers a local twist on viral Dubai chocolate by using macadamia nuts from Hawaii Island instead of pistachios and the treat will be available today from 7 a.m.—7 p.m. with a 20% discount for kupuna.  Hawaii News Now
