🎭 Culture
On July 10 at 6 p.m., chef Masaki Nakayama will serve seven natto-based courses at Robata Jinya on Ala Moana Blvd; tickets cost $100 and parking is free at Ward Village—this event continues a unique midsummer tradition for Honolulu natto lovers.
📰 Economy
A new fuel contract approved on June 23 lowered electric bills for Oahu households by nearly $3 a month and cut Hawaiian Electric’s annual fuel costs by $31 million.
The deal extends the contract until January 31 and guarantees up to 1,000 barrels per day of fuel—steps that help stabilize prices amid global market uncertainty.
🎓 Education
Tūtū and Me Traveling Preschool gifted one pound of fresh poi to 740 preschoolers on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Moloka‘i and Hawaii Island today to help families enjoy a local staple that supports kalo farmers.
The program also advanced cultural education by giving keiki a taste of Hawaiian tradition.
Island Life Live and KITV Island News are supporting the Helping Hands Hawaiʻi Ready to Learn initiative with the 2025 School Tools campaign to supply 3,000 keiki with backpacks full of school supplies for the new school year—more details will be shared soon.

Data from the new Legislative/Administrative Action Report showed that over 7,000 positions were filed on 1,747 bills by more than 340 organizations during the 2025 session, with nearly two-thirds backing proposals and a few groups, like utilities and insurance companies, opposing changes. Researchers say the report — released on June 23 — gives a clear view of how different groups are influencing state policy for Capitol debates.
